Choosing the Perfect Paper for Your Family Tree Chart: A Guide to Lasting Quality
Share
When it comes to creating your family chart, size and material both make a big difference. The right choice depends on two things: how many generations you’d like to include and where you plan to display your chart. Whether you’re designing a subtle hallway piece or a bold conversation starter for your living room, our team will help you find the perfect fit.
At Family Chartmasters, every chart is printed on archival-quality, UV-coated materials—built to last for generations. Your family story deserves a lasting showcase, and our papers and finishes ensure it stays as beautiful years from now as the day it’s printed.
Our default paper size is 24 inches wide, with room to grow up to 42 inches wide, depending on the size of chart you end up with. We can print it as long as you need (we've printed up to 800 feet before!).
Here’s a closer look at our material options:
Presentation Paper
Smooth, lightweight, and easy to write on, this 24lb paper is perfect for working charts and Researcher's Rollouts—the ones you use to jot down notes, make updates, or plan future designs. It’s the ideal choice when you’re still piecing together your family history. It can also be framed successfully.
Professional Paper
A heavyweight, elegant paper designed for display. This 36lb paper's premium finish makes it perfect for framing or gifting—crisp, vibrant, and beautifully polished for a professional presentation.
Vinyl
Durable, water-resistant, and tear-proof—our vinyl charts are made for reunions, classrooms, and indoor and outdoor family events. This material is our only one that is not UV coated, archival quality. You can roll it, hang it, and handle it without worry. It’s the perfect blend of practicality and polish.
Canvas
Our most luxurious option. This artist-grade, lightly textured canvas gives your chart a museum-quality finish—turning your genealogy into a true heirloom piece. With the ability to be stretched and framed (or just mounted, if it's 42" wide), it’s the material of choice for families who want to create a centerpiece that stands the test of time.
No matter which material you choose, each one is crafted to preserve your family’s story beautifully—today and for generations to come.
